The GEF Small Grants Programme

in Uzbekistan

Fair of innovative developments, projects and ideas 2012

The fifth fair of innovative technologies, projects and ideas was held in Tashkent. The fair was held on May 3-5 at the Uzexpocenter in Tashkent. Organized by the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Uzbekistan. Supporting innovation is one of the most important ways to achieve a sustainable, sustainable economy. The government's work is supported by the United Nations Development Program in Uzbekistan.

As in the previous year, the fair was organized with the direct support of the UNDP Innovative Development Policy and Technology Transfer Support Project. The fair is a great place to meet and discuss with researchers, engineers, technologists, academic and research institutions, businesses and investors.

Science and the innovation it produces must always be linked to the direct and practical application of results. The implementation of these results is a matter of the market and its mechanisms. But always something new seems dangerous. That is why the role of so-called “venture capitalists” is so important. In doing so, the Global Environment Facility will act as an investor in financing hazardous technologies and encouraging them to adopt environmentally friendly technologies. But GEF has one attractive feature - we allocate funds in the form of grants. But with these funds, we “buy” some benefits for the environment. Present and future. We are committed to supporting technologies that benefit the environment.

As before, we participated in this exhibition as a partner interested in supporting innovations in the field of energy and land use. Indeed, one of our criteria for innovative, hazardous technology support projects is complementarity (read more about the criteria here).

Presentation of certificates of interest at the fair

We selected a number of projects that looked promising, and PMGEF expressed interest in further work. PMGEF will be happy to support these innovations if the following projects are submitted in the form of a GEF-compliant project proposal. Here is a list of them:

1. Namangan Engineering-Pedagogical Institute water lifting unit
2. Fodder grinder, Tashkent State Agrarian University
3. Autumn-winter washing and creation of moisture reserves in the active soil layer against the background of winter wheat cultivation, Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Land Reclamation.
4. Water use in times of water shortage, Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Land Reclamation.
5. Low pressure system TIIM, Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Land Reclamation
6. Energy saving projects of domestic gas water heaters, Fergana Polytechnic Institute
7. Mobile renewable energy sources, Fergana Polytechnic Institute
8. Street lighting and autonomous power supply of rural telephone exchanges, Andijan State University
9. Flat reflector solar house, Karshi Engineering and Economics Institute
10. Jizzakh Polytechnic Institute, Micro GES for mountainous areas

Issuance of a certificate of interest to the semi-finalists of the fair to finance an innovative project

But this does not mean that we are not interested in the development of other events. We evaluated the developments through the initial description in the fair catalog and decided in advance on these technologies. After talking to the participants at the fair, I realized that there are many other interesting developments that do not clearly describe what to expect from the fair and potential partners. On the contrary, everyone hopes for the best. But there may be other options. Therefore, we invite all developers of innovative technologies in the field of energy and agriculture to pay attention to the criteria of our work, and perhaps in the future we will have the opportunity to cooperate with you.

I must say that the fair has yielded many more results. PMGEF presented a stand, where we shared with the participants of the fair our projects - the work done using other innovative technologies. The interest was great. Many wanted to know more, many interested people came, they were the first to learn about PMGEF and came up with real ideas for projects. In other words, the direct result of the fair was the establishment of partnerships for PMGEF not only with the participants presenting their developments at the fair, but also with visitors who have their own plans and developments. Perhaps the result of such contacts are new projects being implemented in Uzbekistan through PMGEFwidespread.

Someone suggests technologies that we can’t financially support, but we would be happy to write about and share with others through our resources. One of these ideas about effective microorganisms (EM technology) was waiting for me via email on Monday morning. And I showed it to everyone right away. We will be happy to share other information you can offer to other people.
