The GEF Small Grants Programme

in Uzbekistan

A new consultation and information resource center was opened

On February 4, at the KRASS Agro-Advisory Center in Urgench, together with the UNDP Project "Supporting Uzbekistan in the transition to the path of low-carbon development of the national economy" ”, As well as with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, a Consulting and Information Resource Center was established. The main tasks of this Center are:

• exchange of knowledge, information and ideas between farmers, researchers and consultants;

• offering and promoting information among farmers about new, improved technologies that meet local conditions and requirements;

• liaising with local agricultural producers (farmers) and specialists to obtain their views on further adaptation, testing and dissemination of agricultural knowledge and innovations;

• provide information and advice (on farm management, agricultural activities, economic calculations, etc.);

• provision of practical services in the fields, demonstration of innovative technologies;

• promoting knowledge of innovative agricultural technologies to university students living in rural areas for greater dissemination and creation of awareness among the population.

Representatives of mahalla committees and regional khokimiyats of the Republic of Karakalpakstan were invited to the event, who showed great interest in the information presented in the field of energy conservation and efficient use of natural resources.

It should be noted that such centers should be created at least in every region, because interest in new technologies, knowledge and practical experience of projects promoting advanced technologies tested in the conditions of Uzbekistan, and most importantly personal experience is growing every day. Currently, there is a lack of information and "first-hand experience" among farmers, dehkans and other stakeholders. Modern farmers still don't quite trust innovation and unconventional approaches. It is not easy to eradicate age-old practices. In order to give impetus to something new, a living example is needed - the experience of the same farmer who has the same land and the same opportunities.
