The GEF Small Grants Programme

in Uzbekistan

Another jump of

So, we want to tell you about the new "yellow jump". What is hidden under the words "jump" and what is this "yellow" ???

The word "yellow" symbolizes our Program. You are probably already familiar with our brand .. And what does our Program do? - Supports various projects of local communities that help:

prevent climate change by promoting alternative energy sources, energy conservation and proper land use;

combats land degradation by implementing various land and water management practices;

tries to preserve the biological diversity of our country

These are our main areas of work. So what does the new "leap" have to do with it? What does it mean?

The thing is that every 4 years the Global Environment Facility (GEF), i.e. the one who gives money for SGP projects revises his work and formulates his focus of work in the form of new priority thematic tasks. Because The GEF Small Grants Program (SGP) is a corporate program of the GEF, such a Program in each country is also reviewing its strategy for the upcoming GEF budget cycle. This revision was initiated last year. The GEF SGP in Uzbekistan also started this work. A competition was announced for this work. This competition was won by the NGO Ecosan, which began preparing the strategy. The first draft of the strategy would be discussed at the round table. The strategy was sent for consideration to various partners of the GEF SGP, including ministries and departments, regional khokimiyats, the Council of Farmers, NGOs, etc.

The prepared version of the strategy was also sent to the GEF for approval. Following the comments received, the strategy was revised. The main change is the narrowing of the geographical focus of the GEF SGP to 3 regions - Tashkent, Syrdarya and Jizzakh due to the lack of funds from the GEF SGP in Uzbekistan.

Now, the strategy has been approved by the headquarters and at the moment it is planned to start the implementation of the Strategy. In other words, the GEF SGP can start its work in accordance with the updated strategy. This is the new "jump" of the yellow, i.e. of our program.

Before taking such a step, of course, it is necessary to explain to everyone who is interested and who can potentially become a partner and grantee of our Program, what exactly we will be doing. This is what we want to do.

To make the complex document - the Strategy - easy to understand, our volunteer created this picture that will help everyone understand the focus of our activity.

Together with our good partners - NGO Center for Support of Entrepreneurship and Farming - we have planned to hold a round table, where we will explain everything simply and clearly, and answer all possible questions. We are dedicating the launch of our strategy, our next phase of work, on June 5th - World Environment Day.

We invite our potential partners to come to our round table. What is going to be there? The round table will discuss the following aspects:

1. What is the GEF SGP and how does it work?

2. It is said that in the next period (2016-2019), the GEF SGP in Uzbekistan will concentrate its work on agricultural landscapes, including work to improve soil quality, use of water, energy in agriculture and improve the use of biodiversity products and services (pollinators , forest plantations, etc.)

3. Give examples of those projects that were implemented with the support of the GEF SGP (indicated in the agenda) in order for the participants to understand the essence of the work of the GEF SGP.

4. Answer all possible questions of farmers and entrepreneurs who may be potentially interested in applying for support from the GEF SGP.

Our focus in the next period is directed to the agricultural landscape, therefore, our partners should be associated with it. These can be farming communities, entrepreneurs, households, government agencies, non-governmental organizations, and all others. We will be glad to see representatives of the media at the meeting.

We also have a geographical focus this time - these are three regions: Tashkent, Syrdarya and Jizzakh. They will account for 60% of our attention.

The round table will be hosted by the Center for the Support of Entrepreneurship and Farming. When? - on the eve of the celebration of World Environment Day - June 3, 2016 Where?

The round table will be held at the following address: Tashkent, Uzbekistan, Nukuskaya str., 77, in the conference hall of the CPPFU (landmark - to the right of the UzLIDEP building, not far from the Hospital Bazaar)

We are waiting for everyone who is interested !!!
