Ecoweek 2014 continues its march

The main theme of the Ekoweek, which opened in Tashkent on June 5 to mark World Environment Day, is climate change.

What does society know about climate change? Are there ways and measures to adapt to climate change and its consequences? What is the world community and Uzbekistan doing to address climate change?

Many environmental week events focus on these and other issues.

The annual event kicked off with a grand opening on June 2 in Tashkent. A series of interesting events for various groups of the public will cover a number of regions of Uzbekistan and will end on June 8 with a large-scale closing ceremony in the capital. The organizers of the Ecological Week are the State Committee for Nature Protection of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the UNDP Representative Office in Uzbekistan.

Recently, environmental issues have been increasingly discussed and are at the forefront of news and events on a global and regional scale. Modern civilization is increasingly facing the “wonders” of nature and, in particular, the effects of climate change. Among the regional problems, as before, the main ones are the drying up of the Aral Sea, as well as the reduction of biodiversity, desertification, degradation of land and water resources, the production of large amounts of industrial and other wastes that pollute the country. environment. It is well known that human society, with its economic development, is exacerbating environmental problems and suffering from their consequences. Much of what modern man provides for his well-being comes back to him like a boomerang of natural disasters and shocks.

In this regard, the celebration of Environment Day, organized through a series of thematic events, will also allow the public to focus on environmental protection, conservation and improvement of life on earth during working days. To understand the importance of the impending problems, you need to feel and understand yourself as a part of living nature, a responsible link in the earthly life chain, and recognize the right to life given by nature to every living thing on earth.

The opening of the Ecological Week was preceded by an exhibition of joint projects and programs of the PROON Development Program and the Government of Uzbekistan, where guests could get acquainted with the projects and their activities aimed at solving current environmental problems. problems facing modern society and the national economy of Uzbekistan.

The holidays are united by the theme of climate change. The program of events includes youth conferences, seminars, mediations, competitions, performances of children's creative teams.

It should be noted that the World Environment Day, which is celebrated worldwide on June 5 each year, was established in accordance with the resolution adopted by the UN General Assembly in 1972 following the Stockholm Conference on the Environment. He declared for the first time that protecting and improving the environment is the most important task of humanity for present and future generations. Mankind must not forget that life is infinite in its own way and we have no other planet.
