2012 is the Year of Sustainable Energy

Recognizing the importance of energy for sustainable development, the United Nations General Assembly declared 2012 the International Year of Sustainable Energy for All.

Today, 1.4 billion people still do not have access to modern energy sources. In this regard, the OON Secretary General launched the "Sustainable Energy for All" initiative. It envisages solving three interrelated tasks by 2030:

1. Ensuring universal access to modern energy services;

2. reduce global energy consumption by 40%;

3. Increase the share of renewable energy sources in the world to 30%.

Encouraging sustainable energy development is critical to ending poverty, protecting public health, providing access to education, creating jobs, and promoting overall economic development.

Next year's Brazil Sustainable Development Conference (Rio 2012) will be a good opportunity to mobilize support for the development of clean energy sources that are open to all.

The Assembly urges all Member States to take advantage of the Year to raise awareness of the importance of the United Nations system for modern energy supply, access to affordable energy, energy efficiency and addressing issues related to energy resources and energy sustainability. use

On our own behalf, we would like to add that we (PMGEF in Uzbekistan) are pleased to consider any of your ideas for promoting all three of the above tasks.
