Modern technologies of soil salinization, saving valuable water for agriculture, innovations for farmers - all this was seen by the participants of the environmental mediation in Khorezm region. It was organized by the State Committee for Nature Protection for representatives of ministries, political parties and journalists in cooperation with the Small Grants Program of the Global Environment Facility and the Ecosan International Public Foundation for Ecology and Health.
A press conference was held at the Mamun Academy as part of the mediation dedicated to the International Mother Earth Day. It was noted that Uzbekistan pays special attention to environmental protection and sustainable development. During the years of independence, a number of regulations in this area have been adopted. Practical mechanisms for regulating these relations, including the economical use of natural resources, are constantly being improved.
"The example of our region shows how global environmental problems, such as desertification, soil salinization, and depletion of water resources, are reflected in people's lives." Therefore, the fact that the events are held here is very symbolic, - said the chairman of the Khorezm Regional Committee for Nature Protection Bakhtiyor Kalandarov. - In this situation, a lot of attention is paid to farmers. Measures are being taken to improve the reclamation of lands, and innovations are being introduced to enable agricultural workers to save water and increase productivity.
The participants of the media tour got acquainted with the existing projects in the field of rational use of land resources and biodiversity conservation in one of the most remote and arid regions of the country and their practical implementation. In particular, we saw the technology of insulation of the Navruz-Yob canal in Yangiarik district. Thanks to the use of polyethylene film, it was possible to significantly save water, reduce its loss and thus more than double the area of irrigated lands. The technology of laser leveling of areas has aroused great interest. It is successfully used by farmers of Yangibazar and Gurlen districts.
The guests got acquainted with the innovative activities of Urgench State University, Khorezm agro-consulting center "KRASS", as well as projects implemented by farmers with the support of the Global Environment Facility Small Grants Program.
“We offer farmers and entrepreneurs the simplest, cheapest innovations to help them save and use resources more efficiently,” said Alexei Volkov, National Coordinator of the Global Environment Facility's Small Grants Program. "For example, we support those who want to save water, phytomelioration and use alternative energy technologies on remote farms." Our partners include many educational institutions and research institutes. I am glad that the population of the republic is growing, trying to live in harmony with nature.
