The GEF Small Grants Programme

in Uzbekistan

Alternative energy, waste-free economy and rural school. What common?

Biogas technologies are currently considered in many countries of the world as a source of highly effective environmentally friendly biofertilizers, the use of which significantly increases the productivity of agricultural and forage crops. But it was the gas released during the processing of organic waste that gave a person an additional opportunity to meet the growing needs for energy and heating.

Another example of the successful implementation of this technology within the framework of the GEF Small Grants Program is the Ulugbek farm located in the Turakurgan district of the Namangan region. This farm specializes in the cultivation of citrus fruits and has several greenhouses at its disposal. Standard greenhouse designs require heating when growing products in winter. The use of firewood and coal for these purposes is ecologically unjustified and unacceptable for an economy that cares about the health and tomorrow of its children and fellow villagers. Therefore, the project participants decided to use biogas technology for production purposes. Recently, the efforts of the project team have been crowned with success. They put into operation a biogas plant with a reactor volume of 100 m3 and now they receive biogas for heating greenhouses. This unit will produce biogas with a volume of 250 m3 per day. But the most important and essential thing is that now this farm, in addition to satisfying its needs, will be able to provide about 100 cubic meters free of charge. the obtained gas to the local school for heating in the winter classrooms and utility rooms.

On February 18, in Namangan region, a seminar-presentation and a grand opening of a biogas plant at the "Ulugbeklar" farm will take place. We invite interested persons, representatives of national and commercial media and their regional correspondents to participate in the event.
