The first 5th anniversary of the GEF SGP successful work!
As previously discussed in our previous articles about this event, the time when it still was planning and the event was coming, it is impossible to feel the fullness of experience and thrill of pleasant excitement associated with this date without experiencing this day, without spending many days on preparations for this day, without seeing enthusiastic and grateful faces of your friends. That's how we refer to those with whom we are honored to work together, to work on the creation of any project, on the testing and introducing of a technology, on the spread of knowledge and sharing of experience.
To celebrate our first five years we have opted our choice for the same location - Radisson Blu (formerly Radisson SAS), where 5 years ago our program opened was officially lauched. It was very symbolic to remember how it all began within these walls, as how the GEF SGP team made its first steps to success.
Bastamkul Saitkulov - a famous farmer from Djizzakh region. 5 years ago he participated in the SGP lauching ceremony. He started planting pistachio at his lands. Since that time he is a pioneer in reproducing of pistachio woodlands and is an active agitator of pistachio business in the country.
We tried to invite as many workers from agriculture sector as possible, farmers who are the main SGP beneficiaries, representatives of ministries and agencies, journalists, stakeholders, people who are looking and ready to share, experts in their field and energetic enthusiasts. The main result of the GEF SGP has been and remains the knowledge of best practices in land use, water use, energy management, that we want to convey to the as many potential beneficiaries in the country as possible
.
The conference started with a opening speech and congratulations to the SGP team made by the representative of the State Committee for Nature Protection of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the representative of the Council of Farmers of Uzbekistan and the Chairman of the National Steering Committee of the GEF’s Small Grants Programme.

The participants of the conference were farmers from different regions of the country, representatives of political factions, representatives of the funds, the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resource Management, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Economy, representatives of the small grants program at the U.S. Embassy in Uzbekistan, a representative of the Embassy of Kazakhstan and the World Bank experts.

The presentation part was launched by Javlon Tashpulatov, the Chairperson of the National Steering Committee of the Small Grants Programme with a presentation on "SGP in figures", which presented the results of 5-year work of the programme in Uzbekistan.

During the conference, we were able to create an atmosphere of «peer to peer», so each of the paticipants could ask a question and get adequate answers from first-hand, the answer which is the most reliable, so that everyone can share their experiences or give advice. And we think that we have succeeded. I would say more, there were questions that caused lively and emotional debates. The questions that found a fresh solution right from the “place of birth”.
Ismail Khodjaev, farmer from Khorezm region after the end of his presentation was very solid in answering the question of the audience.
Summing up the conference, Alexey Volkov, the GEF SGP National Coordinator in Uzbekistan, thanked all the participants of the meeting, those who came to sincerely congratulate the team with the first 5th anniversary of SGP successful work. We can say that our program for the first five-year completed plan and an unconditional support was provided by our programme partners, and its friends. That's how the SGP NC A. Volkov appealed to the guests of the conference and all those who take part in projects’ implementation.
