If you remember, not long ago the time when we were engaged in the bicycle race has ended. It was really interesting and many young people were involved. The point of the game was exactly to attract attention of people to this wonderful type of transport, which does not harm nature at that.

But after the game a little time has passed while everything has calmed and it turned out to be not so effective. Probably, we couldn’t arouse interest to this issue in mass media. When we asked the guys who participated in the game, what could be changed to make it better, one of the participants said that we should have better organized the game in the city. The logic is the following: while they were riding around the city in teams, people would ask them the purpose of their riding and then probably some part of the population would be involved in the idea of this game.

Of course, this is true. But we decided to be overcautious in terms of safety of the participants and therefore we decided to conduct the game in the absolutely safe place hoping that this idea of beneficial use of bicycles will be spread among people by journalists, electronic mass media and others. But unfortunately it didn’t happen.

There was one more aspect of the game. Many people wanted to participate in the game but many of them simply didn’t have a bicycle and they could not get it. They asked bicycles from their friends and the people they knew, but most of them couldn’t find an “iron” friend even for one day.

But nothing happens in vain. There are signs everywhere, everything is connected with each other and if someone wants something eagerly, there will be some methods to reach the objective. And life will only help us providing us with signs. Such a sign appeared once again.

Every day when I come to the office I start with reading mail. And today I received a message from my colleague in Macedonia where the GEF SGP is working very actively. Of course, he knew nothing about our game and that many people want to do something in order to promote the bicycle idea to life.

The message was about the GEF SGP project organized in the capital of Macedonia – Skopje city. The project is extremely simple, but at the same time is great in its simplicity. People don’t have bicycles, do they?! Give them opportunity to use bicycles. The project helped to organize an office for rent of bicycles for all interested citizens. 100 units of bicycles were arranged within rent service. As a result, citizens and guests of Skopje now can rent and use bicycle when they want it to ride along the city, while nature will be saved because carbon dioxide fuel is not burned down and various detrimental bad gases are not emitted into the atmosphere. And office is maintained at the expense of bicycle rent.

But of course there is support from the part of authorities in this matter. Unfortunately, we are not successful yet in getting such support. At the opening ceremony in Skopje a green ribbon was cut solemnly by the mayor of the city, mayor of the municipality and the GEF SGP National Coordinator.

This is a good idea for implementing in Uzbekistan, isn’t it?
