On August 9, a regular meeting of the GEF SGP National Coordinating Committee was held. Two projects were on the agenda: a project to restore the greenhouse of Samarkand State University and a project from the Uzbekistan Bird Conservation Society.
The meeting was held in the usual mode - discussion, questions on each of the projects.

The project to restore the greenhouse of the biological faculty of the Samarkand State Committee and create an energy efficiency model from it was positively received by the committee. One of the main questions was the question of confidence that, in the light of the grandiose reconstruction of the city of Samarkand, whether the reconstruction plans would somehow affect the greenhouse of the university. It was decided to send a letter to the Khokimiyat of Samarkand to clarify the situation. The second issue was confirmation of co-financing of the project. So far, applications for assistance for the project have been submitted to the Swiss Embassy, the German Embassy, the US Embassy, the Norwegian Foundation and PROON. At the moment, almost all embassies have a vacation period and confirmation of receipt of co-financing has not yet been received.
Thus, the project was approved with two conditions:
1. The project receives confirmation from the khokimiyat of the city of Samarkand about the possibility of implementing the project and the absence of plans to demolish or relocate the greenhouse or other actions in relation to the biofaculty of SamSU;
2. The project receives confirmation from donors about participation in project financing and the project budget is fully covered by attracting additional funds from partners.
The PMGEF itself approves the allocation of 50 thousand US dollars for the implementation of this project.

Another situation with the project from the Society for the Protection of Birds of Uzbekistan. The project raised a lot of questions and stimulated a heated discussion among the members of the committee. The project was rejected due to the large number of issues that need to be reworked or finalized. A detailed description of all questions and comments will be sent in the near future directly to the applicant
Thus, one project was approved with the conditions, the second was rejected and sent for revision to the applicant.
The next meeting of the steering committee will be held in early September and will consider several project applications, including a biogas project in the Yakkabog district of Kashkadarya, a phytomelioration project in Karakalpakstan, a project for a center for the production of small power plants in the village of Nazarkhan (Karakalpakstan) and possibly some others projects.
You will be able to familiarize yourself with the description of these applications in the near future on our website in the "Projects under consideration" section.
